Resting in Christ

Resting in Christ

Reading through the Song of Solomon this morning and I am again reminded of the deep intimate place I get to enjoy in Christ. As a bride is greatly loved by her groom, I am loved by God. What a great God Yahweh is! Through the cross of Jesus, his Son, I can rest in his love. He has done all the heavy lifting for me. My sin has been paid for through Christ’s blood. He has satisfied the wrath of God so that I can experience his grace. I do not have to strive. I do not have to do anything to get his approval! I put my faith in him and then just be me! “Let him lead me to the banquet hall, and let his banner over me be love….My beloved is mine and I am his… Song of Songs‬
As I put my trust in him, I am transformed from the inside out. I become his son, his DNA flowing through me. I am given a new nature, a new heart, and a transformed mind. The “I AM” causes me to be everything he wants me to be.
BEING is what breaks of all the trappings from my life. BEING cleans out the pride, ambition, entitlement, and desire for fame. BEING allows me to make him the object of my affection and brings him pleasure. In Being, I take on his character and his nature. I begin to look like him, act, smell, sound, and even do things as he would. I lose myself, my identity in him, yet I find myself at the same time. Although I am still me, I become identified and associated with him. In Acts, the religious leaders took note that the disciples had been with Jesus. Mark 3:14 tell us the first calling of the 12 was “to be with him”. The mark on my life becomes his presence, his life, and his power flowing through me. Everyone who meets me, encounters him, for “I no longer live but Christ lives in me.” Galatians 3:20
You may ask, what’s my part? That’s easy. Rest and Yield. I rest in all he has done and is doing in me. I am free to worship, fixing my eyes on him, and not striving to do anything. From this place of rest, I yield, I let him work in me. I simply obey his word and trust him for everything. Like a garden hose bringing water from the faucet to the need, I am confident that He is flowing freely through me.
